The trick Smile is where the horse/pony lifts its upper lip so you can see all it's teeth.
1. First you take a treat (anything your horse likes) and hold it over its upper lip, you can try moving the treat up and down, eventually your horse will lifts it's upper lip a little. When the horse lifts it's lip it is important that you reward it by giving it the treat, reward your horse at even the smallest improvement. 2. Keep repeating the step one, after a while ask the horse to lifts it's lip higher before rewarding it. 3. start adding the 'command' and the 'gesture' fx. saying "smile" and lifting a finger every time the horse lifts it's lip, the horse will eventually learn to smile when you say smile and lift your finger |
The trick kiss is, where the horse lifts its lip like when it smiles, to 'kiss' you.
1. Your horse has to be able to smile, to learn this trick. 2. Hold a treat over your horse's lip, like when it has to smile. put the treat close to your face, so the horse has to touch your lip with it's lip with it's lip, then reward your horse. 3. Repeat step one, and add a 'command' fx. say "kiss" every time your horse completes this trick. 4. Eventually your horse will 'kiss' you, when you say "kiss". |
Yawn
The trick yawn is, when the horse yawns when you say "yawn".
1. Say yawn and reward your horse with treats every time it Yawns. 2. Keep repeating step one, soon your horse will understand that it gets treats when it yawns, you can try putting your finger in the side of the horse's mouth to speed up the process. 3. Now add a hand 'signal' fx. spreading your hands out and yawning yourself. |
The trick lift things/fetch is where your horse lifts up an object in it's mouth and brings it to you.
1. Take an object fx. a dog toy, or a rope, something that is easy for the horse to bite and hold onto. 2. Play around with the object infront of the horse/pony, the horse will most likely touch the object, if the horse is not naturally curious enough to touch the object, try hiding a treat behind it. When the horse touches the object, reward it with a treat. Repeat this step. 3. When your horse/pony has understood that it gets rewarded for touching the object, stop rewarding it for touching the object, but wait till it starts biting it, as soon as the horse has bit onto the object give it a treat and take back the object. 4. Now try adding a 'command' fx. say "fetch" every time the horse grabs onto the object. 5. The aim of the trick is that the horse brings objects to you, so try holding the object lower wand lower, remember to reward your horse, and to take back the object. 6. Then try dropping the object to the floor, and ask your horse to pick it up (still using the command) you might have to bring your horse to the object. 7. Now try throwing the object a little further away, eventually your horse will be able to grab objects, and bring them to you. |
The trick walk back is where the horse/pony walks back when you say "back" and move your hand/finger in a backwards waving motion.
1. Gently 'push' your horse backwards, while doing that say "back" and moving your hand/a finger in a backwards waving motion then reward your horse by giving it a treat. 2. Repeat step one, and then start putting less and less pressure on the horse, remember to reward your horse, 3. When your horse has understood this, stand in front of your horse and say "Back" while moving your hand/a finger in a backwards motion, your horse should back away, repeat this and remember to train it. Stay at step one/two as long as your horse needs to understand. 4. Eventually your horse will also back, when you are sitting on it. |
The trick leg lift is where the horse lifts it's leg when you lift yours.
1. Gently lift hour horses leg and say "lift" (you can also try touching your horses leg) then reward your horse. 2. Keep repeating step one, when you have done this several times, lift your leg at the same time, repeat that. 3. When your horse has understood the trick, it should lifts it's leg when you lift yours and say "lift" (you can also try touching your horses leg) 4. When your horse has learned this trick, it should be able to lifts it's leg when you are standing on the ground and when you are sitting on your horse. |
Hug
The trick hug is, where the horse has it's head around you.
1. Lift your horses leg to your side, and reward it. 2. Keep repeating step one, and add the 'command' "hug. 3. When your horse has understood this, and lifts its leg to your side when you say "hug", take your horse's leg, and put it around you/your leg, reward your horse, and say "hug". 4. Keep training this, if you want your horse to put it's head around you, you can take a treat and hold it behind your back. |
